JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City Task Force on Homelessness will be meeting Thursday morning to discuss its resources at 11 a.m. in City Hall.

The task force -- whose creation was approved by the Jefferson City Council in June -- brings together various groups such as law enforcement, community recreation, legal professionals and resources like Room at the Inn or Habitat for Humanity.

Last month, the task force discussed the challenges when it comes to people needing a place to sleep on cold nights.

Documents form the previous meeting states that when the Jefferson City Room at the Inn is at capacity, they are forced to turn people away. Those people are then referred to the Salvation Army, however, that becomes a challenge in terms of transportation.

There are over 15 homeless resources throughout Jefferson City, but transportation can be difficult when buses stop running in the evening.

The task force hopes to have a guess speaker at Thursday's meeting who has either worked in homeless advocacy or someone who has been affected by homelessness to gain more insights.
