Boone County Commission approves $2.5 million funding agreement for Public Safety Childcare Center

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Boone County Commission on Tuesday approved a $2.5 million funding agreement with the state to build a public safety childcare center, according to a Wednesday press release.

The release claims this will be the “first purpose-built public safety childcare center in the nation.” The release says the money from the state will cover half of the cost.

Construction is expected to begin this upcoming spring, and is expected to be completed by early 2026, the release says.

The 10,000-square-foot-facility will provide “extended access to childcare for first responders within Boone County government,” the release says.

The childcare center will be built adjacent to the Boone County Regional Training Center, which is slated to be completed by fall 2025, the release says.
