Two Callaway County Sheriff’s deputies shot, suspect dead
CALLAWAY COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Callaway County Sheriff's Office says two of their deputies were shot on westbound I-70 Monday morning.
In a press release, the sheriff's office says a deputy pulled over a 37-year-old driver from Texas who was alone in the vehicle and notified Callaway County Join Communications the driver had multiple felony warrants out of state. A second deputy arrived on scene shortly after.
The deputy then notified CCJC the driver was resisting arrest.
Moments later, CCSO said deputies reported shots had been fired and both deputies were both shot and were taken to a nearby hospital.
According to the Callaway County Sheriff's Office the suspect was pronounced dead on scene.
One deputy is currently in serious condition and undergoing surgery while the other is in stable condition, the CCSO said.
A law enforcement incident shutdown the westbound lanes of I-70 in Callaway County on Monday morning.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol posted on "X" at 5:06 a.m. that the eastbound lanes of I-70 are back open while westbound traffic is being rerouted at the 144-mile marker.
The Callaway County Sheriff's Office told ABC 17 News crews on scene I-70 westbound is closed from Exit M to Hatton to exit 139 towards Millersburg.
The sheriff's office said they are investigating but did not go into detail.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol posted on "X" at 4:26 a.m. that Troopers are responding to a law enforcement incident on westbound I-70 at the 139-mile marker.
ABC 17 News crews arrived on scene at 4:15 am and saw Boone County and Callaway County sheriff's deputy vehicles along with a bearcat vehicle.
