COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to encourage safety as the Labor Day Weekend continues.

Since the counting period began on August 30 at 6 p.m., at last checked, there have been 44 crashes with six fatalities statewide. Of those 44 crashes, eight occurred in Mid-Missouri and of those crashed five were serious and two were deadly.

On the water there were a total of three incidences including one drowning of a Cottleville man in Golden Eagle Lake on Saturday.

A total of three DWI arrest made this weekend in Mid-Missouri and 25 total were made, according to online arrest reports.

Last year's Labor Day weekend, there were 15 people killed in crashes in the state and 12 boating crashes with no deaths being reported.
