WHAT’S GOING AROUND: Doctors still seeing cases of the flu and COVID-19
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Jefferson City Medical Group Fulton
Nurse Practitioner Dwight Jones with the Jefferson City Medical Group in Fulton says patients there are experiencing more upper respiratory infections than anything else.
As far as the flu, Jones says cases there are mild to moderate, along with cases of strep throat and COVID-19.
MU Health Care
Dr. Laura Morris with MU Health Care says the flu continues to spread in Mid-Missouri.
Morris says this season they are seeing a typical switch from mostly Type A to a mix with Type B influenza cases later in the season.
At MU's clinics, urgent care and emergency departments, Morris says they are seeing patients positive with COVID-19.
Morris continues to recommend testing, especially for older patients, for whom Paxlovid is effective at decreasing the risk of severe illness and death from COVID-19.
Boone Health Columbia
Dr. Robin Blount with Boone Health Care in Columbia says over the past month doctors there have seen an increase in patients with respiratory illnesses.
Blount says if you compare, January was similar to last year, but February's rate of illness is higher.
She says it's not at an alarming rate, but this is the season for those viruses. COVID-19 makes up most of the respiratory virus admissions at Boone Health, followed by RSV and the flu.
Blount says the flu is not a standout this year compared to other seasons, but we are not out of the respiratory months just yet.
