Man accused of fatal Camden County DWI crash appears in court
CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A man who is accused of causing a crash that killed a woman in December appeared for a hearing in the Camden County Courthouse on Wednesday.
Steven Vonderschmidt, 51, of Linn Creek, is charged with DWI - causing the death of another and DWI - causing personal injury. He is being held without bond in the Camden County Jail. He was initially held in the jail in December on a $150,000 bond, which he posted. A warrant was issued on Jan. 9 for failure to abide a judge’s order and he was arrested on Jan. 11.
Vonderschmidt’s attorney filed a motion to reinstate a bond, which was denied Wednesday, according toe Casenet. An arraignment hearing is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8.
Susan Graham, 73, of Arcola, was killed in the Dec. 26 crash on Highway 54 in Camden County.
The patrol says Graham was riding in a Ford pickup truck going westbound when a GMC truck, driven by Vonderschmidt, crossed the center line and collided with the Ford.
The Ford’s driver, Larry Graham, 75, of Arcola, suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital. Susan Graham was pronounced dead at the hospital, the patrol says.
Vonderschmidt also had injuries and was evaluated at an area hospital.
