US Rep. Vicky Hartzler speaks out on inflation
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Inflation is at a 40-year high and the costs of food, gasoline and housing are all going up, directly staring at American consumers.
The Labor Department says inflation jumped to 8.5 percent last week and prices are still being affected by a recovering supply chain and increasing consumer demands.
Now global food and energy markets are taking hits from the Russian war in Ukraine.
US Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-Harrisonville) was in the ABC 17 studio and we asked her when and how we could see an end to rising prices.
No we can recover from it. I lived through the 70's we had 14, 15 percent interest rates and inflation. So it just takes a while but we need to act now. We've got to quit spending money we don't have out of Washington. The definition of inflation is too many dollars chasing too few goods. So we just need to quit sending extra money out into the economy but also we've got to get people back to work so there aren't shortages anymore.
