Boone County traffic stop leads to multi-county chase
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Boone County Sheriff's Department investigation into a parked vehicle at a gas station leads to a multi-county chase and an arrest.
According to court documents, a Boone County Sheriff's deputy observed a vehicle driven by Devin Kempa. Kempa has a warrant out for his arrest for 1st-degree assault.
The probable cause statement says that Kempa refused to turn off the vehicle and began backing into the deputy's vehicle attempting to escape.
The deputy says that Kempa caused over $1,000 in damage to the patrol vehicle during Kempa's escape.
Kempa then sped off and a chase ensued. The chase was eventually called off for the safety of other drivers.
Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter followed Kempa down to Osage County where he was eventually apprehended.
Kempa is charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, one county of resisting arrest and two counts of resisting arrest creating a risk of injury or death.
