Missouri unemployment claims rise for 2nd week in a row
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations is reporting unemployment claims rose for the second week in a row.
The department reported 1,705 more people applied for unemployment last week raising the total to 10,502 claims.
Those claims is the highest number of people seeking unemployment benefit since the week ending on Sept. 5, 2020.
Last week, the U.S. Department of Labor has notified Missouri that it has “triggered off” of the unemployment Extended Benefits (EB) program, making Missouri no longer eligible for the program due to Missouri’s economic recovery.
The last payable week on the EB program will be the week ending October 10, 2020.
Extended Benefits cannot be paid to any claimant for weeks of unemployment after October 10, 2020, regardless of any remaining balance of EB entitlement. Those who were receiving EB benefits may be eligible for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program.
