Neighbors concerned about crime after shooting Friday night

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Neighbors in a northern Columbia neighborhood are concerned after a man is in the hospital in serious condition following a shooting in northern Columbia Friday night.

Columbia Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Blue Ridge Road just after 9 p.m.

Saturday afternoon, ABC 17 News knocked on neighbors doors to hear their perspectives about what they saw and heard. One man who lives in the neighborhood told our reporter that he first heard seven gunshots, then another three. Another neighbor said that he heard three, and that they were so loud, that it felt like they were being surrounded by the ringing sound.

When asked if he was concerned that a shooting happened practically in his backyard, he shrugged his shoulders.

"That's just Columbia for you," he said. "It can happen anywhere in this town."

According to the Columbia Police Dispatch Log, the area where police responded to and where the shooting happened last night has seen 10 shots heard calls and one shots fired call since Jan. 1.

ABC 17 News has reached out to the Columbia Police Department for any updates but have not heard back.
