Two dead after crash in Mexico, Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A head-on crash on the Highway 54 bypass in Mexico killed two people Sunday night, police say.

Kelly B. Rolando, 34, of Pleasant Hill, Illinois, and Jeffrey M. Jappa, 62, of St. Louis, were killed when Rolando's northbound Dodge crossed the center line and hit Jappa's Tesla head-on a little after 7 p.m., the Mexico Department of Public Safety said in a news release.

A passenger in the Tesla, Cheryl A. Pro, 63, of St. Louis, was taken by ambulance to University Hospital, police said. Pro was in good condition Monday, a hospital spokesperson said.

The crash happened about a mile from East Liberty Street and closed the bypass for more than two hours, police said.

Other details were not available Monday morning.
