Greek Week blood drive continues

ABC 17 NEWS

EDITOR'S NOTE: The story has been corrected to remove a reference to a blood shortage emergency.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Greek Week blood drive continues Tuesday.

The University of Missouri and the Red Cross are teaming up for the 34th time to collect life-saving blood donations. The Greek Week blood drive will take place at the University of Missouri recreation center on campus from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will also run during the same time Wednesday.

The Red Cross urges people to not only come out to the blood drive on campus but to donate any time of the year.

Most blood transfusions are for people with severe anemia, therefore, a shortage leaves doctors with the difficult choice of withholding the transfusions.

To donate, you can sign up through the Red Cross Blood donor app, go to the Red Cross website and use the code "MIZZOU," or call the Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS.
