Jefferson City firefighters respond to early morning house fire
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Jefferson City firefighters responded to a house fire on Beck Street early Tuesday morning.
Fire crews were called to a house in the 600 block of Beck around 2 a.m.
Jefferson City Fire Department Chief Matt Schofield said three people, a cat and two birds were inside the house when the fire started, all of which made it out safely. Schofield said the fire started in the kitchen but it was unclear what started it.
"We can't rule out an electrical cause at this time," Schofield said.
Seventeen firefighters responded to the scene. Jefferson City police and an ambulance were also called to the residence.
Crews at the scene told ABC 17 the fire burned a hole in the roof.
As of 4:30 a.m., the fire was still under investigation.
