WATCH: CPS superintendent talks return to classes

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Public Schools continues to prepare for students and teachers to return to classes in the fall.

CPS Superintendent Dr. Peter Stiepleman joined ABC 17 News Thursday morning to talk about the district's preparations.

CPS sent a letter to families Monday that said in light of the city's work on rules to require face coverings, the district will expect students to wear them in the fall.

The district is also extending the time period for families to choose between in-person and online classes. Monday, July 6, is the last day for families to submit their plans.

Wednesday, the contract with the City of Columbia for school resource officers ended. A district spokesperson has said they have not discussed how safety and security measures will change.
