Heather Brown has been picked to join the Southern Boone Board of Education, a Wednesday press release from a school district spokesman says.

The Board was looking to fill a vacancy after Board member Crystal Branch passed away, according to previous reporting. Branch died on Feb. 24. The school district announced it was looking to fill the vacancy on March 20.

The Board of Education approved as a board member on Tuesday during a special meeting, the release states. She will serve out the remained of Branch’s three-year term, which ends in April 2025. Brown was picked out of nine applicants, the release states.

Brown will join Jeremy Galloway and April Georgetti as new members on the board. The latter two were elected by voters during the April 2 election. All three will be formally sworn in on Monday, April 15, the release states.

“We extend a warm welcome to Heather Brown as she joins Jeremy Galloway and April Georgetti in serving on the Southern Boone Board of Education," Southern Boone Superintendent Tim Roth said in the release. "These three individuals’ dedication to our community and commitment to our school district will undoubtedly enrich our school board as we continue to focus on doing what is best for our students.”
