Man charged with first-degree murder after shooting death in Rolla

ROLLA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Rolla man is charged with first-degree murder and other charges after a man dies Thursday night after a shooting.

According to a news release from the Phelp's County Sheriff's Office, around 11:25 p.m. Thursday night, deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the 11000 block of Highway 72.

In the investigation, officers said they found a critically wounded 35-year-old man lying in the driveway with a gunshot wound.

The news release reported the man was identified as Michael Jonathan Schmitt of St. James, Missouri. He was transported to Phelps Health where he later died.

The Phelp's County Sheriff's Officer identified Matthew Andrew Reeves, 32, as the suspect in the shooting.

Reeves allegedly fled the scene in a car and was later found in the 10,000 block of County Road 2060. He was arrested and taken to Phelps County Sheriff's Department on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Reeves is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

The court issued no bond to Reeves.
