Multi-agency investigation after Wednesday night shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Boone County Sheriff's Department and Columbia Police both began investigating a report of shots fired due to the location of the incident. One person was taken to the hospital with injuries.
According to officials, Columbia Police originally responded to a report of shots fired at a location on Native Dancer Court at 6:31 p.m. Wednesday.
Around the same time according to Boone County Sheriff's Department, a walk-in patient with a gunshot wound went into Womens and Children's Hospital. Officials say the victim sustained a grazing type gunshot wound.
At 9:06 p.m., a deputy was sent to make contact with a Columbia police officer for a report of shots fired on the 1500 block of Boone Industrial Drive.
According to officials, the 1500 block of Boone Industrial Drive is a portion of the County that is basically surrounded by portions of the City of Columbia. The dead-end of E Boone Industrial Drive ends near the rear of the residences in the cul-de-sac of Native Dancer Drive. Native Dancer Drive is inside the city limits of Columbia.
During the investigation, evidence was discovered that indicated a gun had been fired in a parking lot on the 1500 block of Boone Industrial Drive. According to officials, that since the evidence was located outside the city limits of Columbia, then the round that grazed the victim possibly came from that location so Boone County Sheriff's Department took over the investigation.
It is too early in the investigation to determine if the shooting of the victim was accidental or an intentional assault.
