Columbia police officers and Boone County Sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting North of Columbia Tuesday night.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Boone County Sheriff's Department investigated a shooting north of Columbia on Tuesday night.

Deputies at the scene at N. Old Highway 63 and E. Flint Hill School Road told ABC 17 News that a suspect was taken into custody and a victim was taken to the hospital.

Deputies did not describe the extent of the victim's injuries. Although he did not go into detail about what led up to the shooting, Sgt. Brian Leer said they believe it was an isolated incident.

"The community is not believed to be in any danger here," Leer said. "We do not believe the shooter is out and about. We believe we have everyone accounted for."

Two cars were inside the area marked with crime scene tape. Investigators placed at least 8 evidence markers down next to one of the cars.

Leer said the man who was taken into custody was not under arrest at this time. Deputies did not release the identity of the victim or the suspect.
