Two detained after vehicle chase from Columbia into Callaway County back into Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia police traffic stop ended up as a chase through Callaway County Thursday afternoon.

Officials say Columbia Police chased the suspect's vehicle into Callaway County on Interstate 70 and canceled the chase at the State Road J overpass.

Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers then spotted the vehicle on State Road F near Fulton and pursued the vehicle to Fulton, then north on US Highway 54 to Kingdom City. Officials say MSHP had to terminate that chase.

Officials say the driver, Derrick Burnett Jr., of Columbia, was transported to the Callaway County Jail for Felony Resisting Arrest.

Officials say three Callaway County deputies attempted to stop the vehicle at I-70 on the State Road M overpass west of Kingdom City.

Officials say a third vehicle pursuit ensued after the suspect's vehicle nearly crashed into the parked deputies cars.

Callaway County deputies chased the vehicle to the Lake of the Woods exit in Columbia where the vehicle exited the interstate and crashed just north of the overpass.

Officials then took the driver and a passenger into custody.

Officials say the driver, Derrick Burnett Jr., of Columbia, was transported to the Callaway County Jail for felony resisting arrest. A vehicle passenger was turned over to Columbia police at the scene.
