COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A St. Louis woman who had been charged with covering up her baby's death pleaded guilty Monday to reduced charges.

Lavosha Daniels, 32, of St. Louis, pleaded guilty to abandoning a corpse and first-degree involuntary manslaughter, Boone County Prosecuting Attorney Roger Johnson said. She had been charged with corpse abandonment and child endangerment causing death after Samone Daniels, who was 4-5 months old, was found dead outside of a tire store in 2019.

The child died after allegedly being strangled by Staffone Fountain.

Fountain, 32, of Independence, Missouri, was originally charged with first-degree murder and abandoning a corpse. He pleaded guilty in August to abandoning a corpse and first-degree involuntary manslaughter.

The state recommended a four-year sentence for abandoning a corpse and seven years for involuntary manslaughter, which will be concurrent.

Daniels is set for sentencing Dec. 16 -- four days after the court receives her sentencing assessment report.
