Boone County man accused in 1993 Indiana killing appears in court

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Boone County man who was charged with murder and rape in Indiana in relation to a 1993 Indianapolis killing appeared in court on Wednesday.

Dana Shepherd, 52, was charged in Marion County, Indiana, with two counts of murder and one count of rape  in the and death of Carmen Van Huss. He was charged in Boone County with being a fugitive from out of state and is being held at the jail without bond.

No change in his bond was made on Wednesday. An extradition hearing was set for 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26. Shepherd currently does not have an attorney, but plans to get one.

Shepherd is accused of killing Van Huss on March 23, 1993. DNA evidence was used to connect Shepherd to the case, court documents in previous reporting say.
