Callaway County deputies respond to shots-fired scene; two injured, suspect believed to have fled
PORTLAND, Mo. (KMIZ)
Callaway County deputies and several law enforcement agencies responded to a shots-fired scene near Paradise Lakes in Portland, according to a Friday evening post on its social media.
In an update at 12:02 a.m., Callaway County Sheriff's office announced that it is believed that the suspect fled his residence before law enforcement arrival and deputies have expanded their search area.
In an update at 3:28 a.m., the suspect could not be found by law enforcement. After obtaining a search warrant, deputies recovered several firearms from the suspect's home.
Officials are urging residents in the area to call 911 to report any sightings of suspicious activity. It is unknown if the suspect is still armed.
The sheriff’s office wrote that two people had suffered serious injuries, but the injuries did not occur from gunfire. The victims were evacuated by law enforcement. The sheriff’s office wrote that its special response team was on the scene with an armored vehicle.
“Anyone near Paradise Lakes should lock their doors and vehicles and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement via 911,” the post states. “This is still an active scene, and no further information is available at this time.”
The Fulton Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Fulton Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol are assisting and on the scene, the post says.
