Teen gets five years for fight at Columbia ARC
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man was given a five-year prison sentence Friday for his role in a fight at Columbia's Activity and Recreation Center last June.
Kameron Mearidy, 19, was given credit for time served after his arrest last August.
Mearidy was charged with second-degree assault for his role in the fight, which led to a large police presence and four people being arrested. According to a probable cause statement, Mearidy was seen on camera kicking and punching someone more than 20 times.
Even after the victim fell, Mearidy continued punching and allegedly kicked and stomped on the victim at least four times, prosecutors say.
The victim was bleeding from the mouth and missing teeth, according to court records.
Mearidy was arrested in August for his involvement with the fight. He was booked into the Boone County Jail on a $20,000 bond. He was still listed on the jail's roster as of Friday morning.
He pleaded guilty to the charges in January.
Witnesses at the scene told ABC 17 News that the fight began between two groups and escalated when someone with a gun threatened to shoot.
A woman charged in the fight, Lakeisha R. Thomas, has a sentencing hearing set for Monday after pleading guilty to assault.
