Four arrested for fight at ARC in Columbia Sunday afternoon; police unable to determine if shots fired

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Four people were arrested after a disturbance at the Activity Recreation Center in Columbia led to a large police presence in the area for over an hour Sunday evening.

Columbia Police and several other agencies responded to the ARC Sunday at 4:34 p.m. for reports of a fight and possible shooting. Police said in a Facebook post it was unable to confirm if any shots were fired.

A witness told ABC 17 the incident started out as a fight between two groups that escalated to someone with a gun threatening to shoot.

Police tell ABC 17 News a secondary scene at the Gerbes Supermarket across the street was related to the disturbance at the ARC.

A woman hurt a boy, according to police. The boy was taken to a local hospital. That woman was arrested for two counts of assault second degree, for assault fourth degree, for unlawful use of a weapon and for armed criminal action.

Another boy was arrested for assault, making a terroristic threat and a weapons offense. Police say he is in the custody of the Boone County Juvenile Office.

Police tape was surrounding the outside of the building, as officers were actively working to evacuate the ARC.

While there was a second police scene at the Gerber Supermarket across the street from the ARC, police told ABC 17 it was directly related to the isolated incident at the recreation center.

Police were not blocking traffic in the area and the scene was cleared around 6 PM.

A Columbia Police officer told ABC 17 that all suspects involved were detained or arrested, and there is no danger to the public at this time.
