Trial dates for man accused in 2021 Lazy Gators shooting moved to September 2024

CAMDENTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

The jury trial for a Jefferson City man accused of a 2021 Memorial Day weekend shooting at Lazy Gators has been moved back to September

Chad Tariq Brewer, 31, was charged with first-degree murder, delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held at the Camden County Jail without bond.

His trial was initially set for January, but on Tuesday was moved to 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2024. A pretrial conference is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the Camden County Courthouse.

According to previous reporting, Brewer is accused of shooting Vonza Watson in the abdomen and killing him after a fight on May 29, 2021.

Brewer was arrested at the scene after deputies allegedly found drugs in his possession. During the investigation, detectives gathered surveillance footage that showed Brewer shooting a handgun and then leaving the scene, according to previous reporting.

Earlier this month, the state of Missouri announced it would not seek the death penalty against Brewer.
