Person of interest in Lazy Gators shooting arrested on drug charges

CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

One person is still in custody on unrelated charges following a shooting that killed one at Lazy Gators late Saturday night.

According to a probable cause statement, Chad Brewer was at Lazy Gators on Sunday and after deputies responded to shots fired, they identified him as a possible suspect.

Deputies detained Brewer and while searching him, found 16 small bags of cocaine weighing about 5.5 grams in total. Prosecutors charged Brewer with felony delivery of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Brewer has a criminal history out of Jefferson City, according to court documents. Records show he has been arrested in the past for first-degree robbery, peace disturbance and resisting arrest.

Chief Deputy Jim Brashear with the Camden County Sheriff's Office said Brewer is still a person of interest in the homicide. However, no charges have been filed against anyone directly related to the shooting death of Vonza Watson, 27, of Jefferson City.

Brashear said the department is still working to follow up on leads and comb through video from Lazy Gators on Saturday.

The chief deputy said the disturbance started as a fight and asks anyone with video of the fight, or shooting to reach out to the Camden County Sheriff's Office.
