Parson: State to carry out Tisius’ death sentence 

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson confirmed in a Monday press release that the state will carry out Michael Tisius’ death sentence Tuesday after a request for stay for declined by the state Supreme Court of Missouri.

Tisius, 42, is scheduled to die by lethal injection. It was initially delayed last week after lawyers for Tisius claimed a juror in his 2010 resentencing hearing was possibly unqualified because he could not read or write English. Advocacy groups delivered letters to Gov. Mike Parson last week seeking clemency for Tisius.

Tisius was convicted of shooting and killing two Randolph County jailers during an attempt to free a friend in 2000. Tisius was convicted at 19 years old and has been detained since his conviction in 2001.

“Missouri’s judicial system provided Mr. Tisius with due process and fair proceedings for his brutal murders of two Randolph County jail guards,” Parson said in a press release. “Having run a small county jail, I know firsthand the hard work and selflessness displayed by those who work there. It's despicable that two dedicated public servants were murdered in a failed attempt to help another criminal evade the law. The state of Missouri will carry out Mr. Tisius’s sentences according to the Court's order and deliver justice.”
