COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Cooper County man allegedly admitted to downloading and viewing child pornography on his laptop and other devices, according to a probable cause statement filed Thursday.

Mathew Szymanowski, 24, of Otterville, was charged Thursday with two counts of promoting child pornography and three counts of child porn possession. He was in the Cooper County Jail on a $50,000 bond Friday morning.

The Digital Forensics Investigative Unit in the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control handled the case, the patrol said in a news release.

Investigators wrote in the probable cause statement that Szymanowski told them he knew having child pornography was wrong and illegal but that he did not have any sexual contact with children. Investigators say they found more than 500 files on his electronic devices.

No hearings were listed in online court records.
