MU police report sexual assault but release little information

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

University of Missouri police are investigating a report of a sexual assault that happened early Friday, according to a news release.

On Saturday, the University said the incident occurred at an apartment complex on the south side of Columbia. Police say they have also identified and interviewed the suspect.

MUPD says in the release that the assault was reported at about 3:15 a.m. and happened between 1 and 2:50 a.m.

Police released no other details.

Universities are bound to send out public reports of violent crimes by the federal Clery Act.

The university received reports of 12 rape cases on campus and another seven off campus in 2019, the latest data available.
