Police: Camdenton robbery suspect shoots himself during standoff

CAMDENTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man suspected of a robbery in Camdenton shot himself in the head during a standoff with police on Monday, according to a news release from the Camdenton Police Department.

Camdenton officers responded to the Gerbes Supermarket on Highway 54 Sunday after the suspect allegedly approached the pharmacy with a gun, jumped the counter and stole multiple prescription drugs, the news release said.

Camdenton Police found the suspect and tried to serve him a search warrant at a home along with the Missouri State Highway Patrol SWAT team, the news release said.

The suspect barricaded himself in the home, and officers heard one gunshot. When they went inside, the suspect had a gunshot wound to the head, the news release said. The suspect was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities are continuing to investigate.
