MONDAY UPDATES: Missouri DHSS adds 41 coronavirus related deaths after analyzing death certificates

Missouri DHSS has added 41 COVID-19 related deaths after state’s disease surveillance system analyzed several death certificates.

Officails say the deaths will be captured and reported publicly through the dashboard Tuesday morning.

Of the 41 deaths:

  • two occurred in December
  • six in January
  • 27 in February
  • six in March

Officials at DHSS report the weekly activity typically causes a sharp increase in the deaths added to Missouri’s total the following day. DHSS is now regularly analyzing death certificates on Mondays.

Officials say the state does not track probable or pending deaths.

CDC reports 2.5-percent of Missourians missed getting the second dose of the coronavirus vaccine

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a report that three percent of people receiving the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine have not gotten the second dose.

In Missouri, the CDC reports 2.5-percent of Missourians have missed getting the second dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

In the report, 4.5-percent still have not received the second dose but remain within the allowable interval.

Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is reporting one new coronavirus related death. This is the 83rd COVID-19 death since the pandemic started.

The death was recorded today. The death occurred on Feb. 28 and the individual was in the 60-64 age group. It is the 25th COVID-19 related death this year and fourth this month.

The county is reporting 11 new COVID-19 cases. There are currently 91 active cases in the county.

The county now has a reported total number of COVID-19 cases of 17,694.

The county has reported the total number of cases removed from isolation is 17,520.

Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services dashboard has reported the latest five-day average as 16.

The dashboard is reporting the positivity rate of 10.3% for the week of Feb. 26 through March 4. The new positivity rate posted is 10.9% for the week of March 4 through last Thursday.

The county continues to trend down as there have been 47 straight days of single or double-digit case increases.

The health department is reporting the total number of hospitalizations in Boone County is 19.

The number of Boone County residents hospitalized is reported to be four.

The dashboard is reporting five COVID-19 patients in the ICU and four patients on ventilators.

The hospital status remains in 'Green' status. 'Green' status is when hospitals are operating within licensed bed capacity; accepting patient transfers from referring hospitals within standard care operating procedures.

The State of Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard is reporting that 41,792 residents have received their first dose in Boone County.

The county has the largest percentage of people in Mid-Missouri that have received at least one dose of the vaccine with 23.2%.

Saline County has the second largest with 21.9% of the population have received the first dose of the vaccine. Cole County has the third-highest percentage at 21.3%.

Boone County reports 26 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend

A little more than two dozen new COVID-19 cases were reported in Boone County over the weekend.

Columbia/Boone County health department officials said in a tweet Monday afternoon that five new cases were reported from Saturday and 21 more came on Sunday.

As of Monday, there were 100 active COVID-19 cases in the county. Health officials have reported more than 17,000 positive cases during the pandemic.

The health department reported 22 new cases in its update on Friday. The same data said more than 40,000 county residents have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The department reported 1,802 of its 2,300 vaccine doses were used at a mass vaccination event held on Friday. Department officials said leftover doses will be used for homebound residents or redistributed to other local vaccinators.

Open vaccine appointments were also listed on the health department's website Monday morning. All of the appointments were booked up within two hours of them being posted.

Statewide coronavirus vaccinations continue seeing increases

The state health department's coronavirus dashboard update on Monday morning said vaccinations across the state continue to increase.

In the latest data available, more than 1.7 million total vaccine doses have been administered with 1.17 million having started the vaccination process, 19.1% of the state population.

The dashboard said 635,000 Missourians have completed vaccination. At least 214,000 have received a dose of vaccine in the last seven days, on average more than 30,000 were vaccinated every day over that period.

In Mid-Missouri, state data said Boone County had the highest vaccination rate at 23.2%. Health officials included that Cole County has vaccinated about 21.3% of its population and Callaway County was reported at 17.5%.

State and local leaders are holding a mass vaccination event in Jefferson City on Friday. The county health department said last week that teachers will be prioritized at the vaccine event, however, it is also open to the public.

Missouri's coronavirus vaccination plan increased to Phase 1B, Tier 3 on Monday. The tier makes teachers, energy sector workers and thousands of others eligible to receive a vaccine. The Columbia/Boone County health department had some vaccine appointments available for people in those categories on its website.

In the dashboard update, the health department reported 235 new COVID-19 cases through PCR testing bringing the pandemic total to 483,748. The data said pandemic-related deaths were reported at 8,310.

Missouri's seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate increased slightly on Monday to 4.5%. The health department has reported the rate at the same level or lower throughout the month of March.
