Dr. Randall Williams, director of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, said the program will help vaccinate more Missourians more quickly.
"In conversations with the White House and our federal partners, these pharmacies were selected by them in the designated areas because of their accessibility for many Missouri communities and the trust pharmacies have built with their patients," Williams said in a news release announcing the program.
People in the top two tiers of Phase 1B of the state's coronavirus vaccination plan are currently eligible for shots. Those groups include first responders, people with certain health conditions and those age 65 and older.
As of Thursday, 764,378 totals doses of the vaccine have been given out to residents of Missouri and 9.4% of the population has received at least one dose of the vaccine. A total of 3.1% of the Missouri population has received both doses of the vaccine.
