Columbia Public Schools employee tests positive for COVID-19

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Public Schools announced Saturday evening an employee at Russell Boulevard Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19.

The email sent out to families and staff members shows the employee has not been in contact with students, families or other staff members within 24 hours after showing symptoms.

CPS spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark said county health officials investigated whether the employee had been in contact with others at the district.

It's the first known case of someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19 at the school district, as of Saturday.

Boone County officials said at least 15 people have tested positive for novel coronavirus in the county.

At least two University of Missouri employees have also tested positive for novel coronavirus.
