Safety remains a top priority for Art in the Park
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Safety procedures are crucial when it comes to planning one of Columbia's biggest events as Art in the Park is set to kick off on Saturday.
Art in the Park brings in artist from across the country, displays a variety of media including painting, drawing, photography, jewelry, and much more. This popular community event attracts several people to Stephens Lake Park, prompting the city and the event to work together to keep people safe.
In the Art in the Park's emergency plan, it recognizes that its location in the Southwest corner of Stephens Lake Park has no exterior fencing or boundaries. No alcohol will be present and Columbia police and fire department will be on sight during the event all weekend long.
The event has a plan prepared for several possible scenarios ranging from a lost child, severe weather or a terroristic threat.
It also has plans and coordinates with the Columbia Fire Department if there's a medical emergency. It will also coordinate with CPD if there's a theft, disorderly person, a fight or a suspicious bag left unattended.
Police, fire, the people in charge of the event and select volunteers will all have radios to stay in contact with one another and to relay any issues they might have.
Art in the Park will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
