Columbia man accused in shooting sentenced to probation

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man who was accused of a shooting on March 14, 2023, near Mystic Pines Townhomes was sentenced to probation on Wednesday.

Deazjon Brown, 28, pleaded guilty to unlawful gun possession and was sentenced to five years of probation with a seven-year suspended sentence. He was initially charged with unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and illegal gun possession.

Police identified Brown as a suspect in the shooting after an officer identified his vehicle in the area, according to a probable cause statement in previous reporting. A witness also told police that Brown was involved in the shooting, the statement says.

Court documents from previous reporting say Brown was seen by police officers driving to another home in the area with his face covered and wearing dark clothing. Brown allegedly got into another car, which the court document identified as a black Chrysler. A police officer attempted to pull over the vehicle on Interstate 70, but the car failed to stop, according to previous reporting.

On March 20, 2023, a gun was found on the median of Interstate 70 near the Stadium Boulevard exit where the officer who tried to pull over the vehicle, according to previous reporting. According to the probable cause statement, the bullets from the gun found on the median matched the ones that were used at the shooting.
