Columbia police investigate deadly motorcycle crash

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Police Department is investigating a deadly motorcycle crash that happened Saturday night.

Around 8 p.m. Saturday, Columbia Police found a single motorcycle crashed at Rock Quarry Road near Riback Road. The driver of the motorcycle was 26-year-old John Martin. Martin was taken to the hospital by ambulance Saturday night, but died from his injuries.

Martin was going south on Rock Quarry when he went off the right side of the road and hit a fence, according to Columbia Police. He was not wearing a helmet.

Police are still investigating the crash.

"Always wear your helmet or seat belt, obey traffic signals, keep your phone down and keep your eyes on the road. If you see anyone driving erratically or dangerously, either pull off the road to call or have a passenger call 911. Our thanks to everyone who helps keep our community safe," Columbia Police said in a news release.
