Man suspected in Columbia crash admitted to DWI in March

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The man police say crashed into multiple vehicles Monday on Stadium Boulevard was on probation for DWI after pleading guilty in March, according to court records.

Columbia police say Tyler A. Schmitz, 28, of Westphalia, Missouri, was arrested after crashing into cars on Stadium Boulevard between Rollins Road and Forum Boulevard on Monday. The crash happened at about 4:30 p.m.

Officers arrested Schmitz on suspicion of DWI and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage over $1,000. He was not in the Boone County Jail on Tuesday afternoon. He had not been charged as of Tuesday afternoon.

Schmitz pleaded guilty to DWI in March and was sentenced to two years of probation in Cole County, online court records say. He completed educational courses on the dangers of drunk driving in May and finished a victim impact panel in September, according to records.
