Columbia Boone County Health Department to provide update on new health order

Zara Barker

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Boone County Health Department will release information about the new health order Monday afternoon.

The current health order is set to expire on March 4.

The main change under the current order allowed restaurants and bars to stay open until midnight. Local restaurant and bar owners said the change would allow them to make a significant amount of money they were not able to under tighter restrictions.

The health department reported 139 active cases of Coronavirus in Boone County on Monday. Eight Boone County residents who had active cases were hospitalized with the virus.

The positivity rate in Boone County was at 11.9 on Monday. It had reached 36.4 at its highest point between Dec. 25 and Dec. 31 of 2020.

Local health leaders had previously said lowering hospitalizations and positive cases would allow them to begin lifting restrictions but said it would be important people continued following health guidelines in order to prevent tightening them again.
