Free flu shot clinics start in Callaway County

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Callaway County Health Department will hold free flu clinics through the end of February in select locations throughout the county.

The flu shots will be given to anyone 18 and older. No insurance is required for the health department to administer the shot.

Health experts are advising the public to get flu shots if they have not in part because of the increased risk of illness created by the coronavirus pandemic.

Tabitha Strobel, a registered nurse for the Callaway County Health Department who will be running several of the free clinics, said she hopes the clinics will "bring people out that may have been scared to go into town or didn't make it into their doctor's office."

Strobel it is not too late to get a flu shot. "It's especialy important this year to prevent you from getting sick with influenza which will make you more compromised to catch COVID easier," she said.

The health department teamed up with the Callaway County Ambulance District to ensure that anyone who wants a flu shot can get one.

Clinics will be from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Serve, Inc. and from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Friday at the sewer district. Additional locations and times for free flu shots through the Callaway Health Department can be found on the department's Facebook page.
