Two dozen crashes reported on stretch of Highway 124 over past three years

COLUMBIA, Mo., (KMIZ)

About two dozen crashes have been reported over the past few years on the stretch of highway where a Centralia teenager died Thursday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol's traffic crash map shows 24 crashes on Highway 124 between Hallsville and Centralia since Nov. 1, 2020. That includes a Thursday crash at the same intersection where 18-year-old Kara Teel died after an SUV she was in turned in front of a work truck.

Six of the crashes involved injuries.

Another teenager was injured in the crash at Route CC and Highway 124, according to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Highway 124 stretches across the county and includes spots where several crashes have been reported. On Oct. 16 two women were seriously injured after their scooter crashed into an SUV near Fayette.

Two people from Jefferson City suffered serious injuries last month on Highway 124 between Hallsville and Centralia.

ABC 17 spoke with Missouri Highway Patrol Major Crash investigation Sgt. Paul Meyer about if there is concern regarding this highway.

"I have family members that live along here and travel through here very often, and they were always expressing concern to me about the speeds, the amount, the traffic volume that travels to and from Columbia and Centralia, and that there is concern," Meyers said.

ABC 17 has reached out to the Missouri Department of Transportation.
