Tracking a hot kickoff for week 1 at Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium

TODAY: Thursday is another hot day. Especially with outdoor activities surrounding Mizzou's home opener, today's heat could be dangerous. Heat indexes are expected in the 103-107 range today. An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for Boone, Callaway, Audrain, Cole, Moniteau, Osage, Gasconade, Monroe, and Montgomery counties through Saturday. This list may expand. Sunny skies are expected before a few cumulus clouds return this afternoon.

TONIGHT: Another mostly clear and warm night is anticipated. Kickoff at Faurot Field will likely be in the low 90s, with a heat index near 100. On the turf, it will feel hotter.

EXTENDED: More heat is expected, with heat indexes of similar stature each day through Saturday. Mostly sunny skies are expected each day, with a few clouds developing each afternoon. This is thanks to upper-level ridging, or our "heat dome," that is quite persistent even into next week. Only a slight break comes over the weekend as it slides west, allowing for some upper-level northwest flow that may drive a weak cold front through the region. Highs remain forecast in the low 90s, with no meaningful rain chance. Still, there is some hope that this could open the door to a slight chance of rain, but as of now, the chances are too slim to include in the forecast.
