Boone County issues proclamation in support of Ukraine; lay wreath to honor soldiers

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
On Thursday, the United States Exercise Tiger Foundation (USTF) laid wreaths with blue and yellow flowers at the Boone County Government Center on Thursday to honor Ukraine.
Boone County Commissioners Justin Aldred and Janet Thompson were among the attendees, along with Chris Cook, pastor of Parkade Baptist Church. Cook recently got back from a humanitarian mission to Ukraine.
Dr. Yaroslav Pyzh, President of Ukraine Baptist Theological Seminary in L’viv, Ukraine sat on face time Thursday morning with pastor Cook as officials honored and spoke heartfelt words to the president of the Seminary on behalf of Boone County.
A U.S. Navy officer rang a bell for those in Ukraine and veterans. "The noblest thing is to fight for democracy in your own nation or water, so to honor that fight that they are doing is something that we are proud of being able to do," said Walter Domanski, Public Affairs Officer for USTF.
During the event, the USTF is asking for tourniquets. The foundation said Ukraine is in need of a quarter million tourniquets and they are still far from there goal."Ukraine need something like 250 thousand of them, the attacks that just happened this week at the train station a couple of days ago, they used several hundred cause of the way the injuries are to people, I mean its just a mass of things, " Domanski said.
“Ukraine is in desperate need of this life-saving device. The Consul, Iryna Mazur of Philadelphia has asked that we help get any we can. So, I want people and businesses to try to donate them to the USTF,” said Susan Haines, national director of the United States Exercise Tiger Foundation.
The honorary event is not just happening in Boone county, but across Missouri including St.Louis and world wide as well. Another ceremony is planned at noon in Audrain County at the Missouri Exercise Tiger Army & Navy Anchor Memorial.
Other wreath-laying ceremonies are scheduled to happen at 12:30 p.m. in California, Washington state, Texas and New Jersey.
Just before Boone county commissioner Janet Thompson received her award from USTf, she had one last thing to say to Ukraine . "I send all best wishes to the people of Ukraine to everyone there who is sacrificing day in and day out and just remember never, never, never give up," said Janet Thompson, Boone County Boone County, District II Commissioner.
