Mid-Missouri schools impacted by winter weather

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE at 9:43 p.m.: Jefferson City School District posted on its Facebook page that classes start two hours later on Thursday.

According to the post, buses will be on snow routes in Callaway County. The post said district officials are monitoring road conditions and overnight temparatures. School leaders will decide by 5:30 a.m. on Thursday whether to issue a school cancellation.

ORIGINAL: Columbia Public Schools and Southern Boone R-I Schools called off Thursday classes.

Columbia Public Schools spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark tweeted just before 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday that Thursday classes were canceled because of winter weather.

Southern Boone County School also called off classes. A Facebook post from the school district shows Wednesday night activities were canceled.

Dozens of community events were canceled on Wednesday around Mid-Missouri. Some area school districts have called in late starts for Thursday.
