Ashland police investigating Southern Boone Middle School weapon threat
ASHLAND, Mo. (KMIZ)
Ashland police are investigating allegations that a student threatened to bring a gun to the Southern Boone Middle School on Tuesday.
Sgt. Andrew Worrall with the Ashland Police Department said that a student who said they would bring a gun to school was not at school Tuesday, resolving any potential threat.
"The incident is under investigation, so I cannot release further information," Worrall said.
Superintendent Chris Felmlee said the district was working with police in regard to a "student situation." He declined to go into specifics.
Felmlee said the district takes all threats to campus safety seriously and Southern Boone works closely with police in those cases.
"Students are safe and there has been no interruption to the school day," Felmlee said in a letter to parents Tuesday. "We wanted to make you aware of this situation and to reiterate your child's safety is our top priority."
He said in the letter that the district could not divulge details because of privacy laws.
"Parents, please talk with your child about the consequences of threats against our school," Felmlee wrote in the letter to parents. "Any and all threats (including pranks) will be taken seriously. Remind your child that if they see or
hear anything that threatens the safety of students or staff, they should tell a trusted adult."
