Tigers dominate in opening exhibition against Lincoln

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou women's basketball began its season on their home floor in dominant fashion, cruching Lincoln 117-43.

The offseason for this group of Tigers has been fueled by competitiveness and determination, both traits were on display in full force for the first game of the year.

After the game started 3-3, the home side went on an 18-4 run, largely thanks to the efforts of senior Grace Slaughter and freshman Khloe Ford. The preseason all-sec forward reached double digits within the first 10 minutes of the gam, while Ford was up to eight points and three boards.

The second quarter was much of the same, with Mizzou out scoring the Blue Tigers by 16 to take a 58-25 lead into half time. Despite the hot start, the team still came out determined to grow the lead even more. Lincoln was held to just nine points in the third, and didn't score their first second half bucket until seven minutes into the frame.

In the fourth, eight different Tigers picket up a score, as the team shot 13-17 from the floor in the final 10 minutes, ultimately securing the 74 point win.

Slaughter lead the scoring effort with 25 points on 75-percent shooting, while netting three rebounds and a trio of assists. The freshman pairing of Ellie Muller and Khloe Ford lead the effort on the glass, picking up 10 and eight boards respectively. Another freshman lead the assists column, with Natalya Hodge picking up six off the bench.

Up Next - Mizzou is set to open up its regular season against Howard back at home. Tip off for that game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2.
