Weather Alert Day: Storms expected to bring wind and flooding threat tonight into Sunday morning
BLOG:
The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day for the potential of severe storms tonight.
Storms have begun to form, and there is a severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 1 a.m. for our southern counties. These will continue to move east and gradually south throughout the rest of the night.
Communities along and south of HWY 50 are in a level 2 out of 5 severe risk via the Storm Prediction Center.
Storms will have a threat for all types of severe weather, but the focus will be on potential for damaging winds, hail, and flooding. The high instability will lead to tall storms with an updraft capable of hail, and putting down gusty winds. Especially if storms can form into an organized cluster.
Additionally, storms will train and move heavy rain repeatedly over the same areas, increasing our risk of flooding through Sunday morning.
Have a way to receive alerts overnight. You should turn on and program you NOAA weather radio, and make sure to have the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather App downloaded and set up alerts so you can receive timely alerts that may wake you up in case of dangerous weather.
