Missouri State Highway Patrol set to investigate Sturgeon standoff
STURGEON, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control will be investigating the five-hour-long standoff in Sturgeon on Tuesday.
Shots were fired after police from Sturgeon, Hallsville, Columbia and Boone County Deputies surrounded a mobile home Tuesday afternoon and police responded to a domestic violence call.
The standoff led to the death of suspect Damion Linder. Cpt. Brian Leer from the Boone County Sheriff's Office told ABC 17 News Linder was found dead inside his home just before 7 p.m. Tuesday. However, Leer was unable to say if Linder was killed by law enforcement or if he shot himself.
Prosecutors filed charges of second-degree domestic assault, unlawful use of a weapon and illegal gun possession were filed against Linder on Tuesday.
Court documents say Linder smashed the side of a women's head against a toilet paper holder and then pointed a gun at her head.
ABC 17 News crews arrived on scene when shots were being fired. Two armored vehicles were damaged by a high powered rifle in the exchange.
Prior to this incident, Linder was on probation for concealing a felony and interference with custody out of Audrain County, according to records from the Missouri courts and Department of Corrections.
