Jefferson City Board of Education chooses Student Transportation of America, will get 62 new buses

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City Board of Education will no longer be using First Student Transportation and will now use Student Transportation of America.

The Board voted to approve the contract in Thursday night's board meeting with their new transportation vendor. The Jefferson City School District had bids from four vendors: First Student, North America Central, Durham and STA. The new contract goes into effect July 1 and ends June 30, 2027.

STA will come with benefits for the Jefferson City School District starting with 62 new buses, crisis-prevention training to staff members and monitors, wifi-powered cameras and more..

Starting wages for existing bus drivers will see a increase along with sign-on bonuses. Bus monitors' starting wages will also increase.

The cost to the district is based on the size of the bus and route the bus takes. As an example, an 83-person bus going to and from school will cost $527.12 per day. The rates from the contract can be view below.
