Columbia City Council to swear in new council members

COLUMBIA, Mo (KMIZ)

On Friday, the Columbia City Council is set to hold a special meeting to swear in Nick Knoth and Donald Waterman,

The new members were elected in April's election.

During that meeting, the city also plans to celebrate the outgoing members, Ward 1 Councilwoman Pat Fowler and Ward 5 Councilman Matt Pitzer.

Nick Knoth, will take over for Ward 1 Councilwoman Pat Fowler. Knoth is someone who says he stands for better working conditions for public servants, expanding resources for the unsheltered, and improving environmental issues throughout the city, and he was endorsed by the Columbia Firefighter' Union.

Taking over Ward 5 for Councilman Matt Pitzer will be Donald Waterman. Waterman was endorsed by the Columbia Police Officers' Association and said on social media that he plans to ensure the Columbia Police Department and Columbia Fire & EMS Department are fully funded.

Waterman, also stands in support of making sure infrastructure projects are completed in the area.

The City of Columbia says the public is invited to attend Friday's event and a reception will take place afterward.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at 5:30 p.m. at Columbia City Hall.
