COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
On Thursday, U.S. Marshals arrested 19-year-old Maurice D. Banks, Jr. in Las Vegas for his involvement in the death of Jermaine Spain.
Banks is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and armed criminal action in connection with Spain's death at Cosmopolitan Recreation Area Park on Nov. 2, 2020.
The Boone County Prosecutor's Office also filed charges against another man after the deadly November 2020 shooting.
Prosecutors also charged Isaiah C. Brunson with second-degree murder and delivery of a controlled substance last December in the connection with Spain's death.
Around 6 p.m. on Nov. 2, Spain was found by officers in the park after they responded to a report of a shooting. He was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds according to CPD.
Brunson was shot as well and drove himself to a local hospital.
A day after the shooting, CPD detained a 15-year-old in the case on charges of second-degree murder, armed criminal action and delivery/possession of a controlled substance. The 15-year-old was later released from a detention center on Nov. 5 after police stated they no longer believed he was a suspect. Charges were then dropped.
